Cari Blog Number 27

It's been awhile since a Cari blog appeared, so I'll try to get it all in one.

July 16th, we had our one year anniversary, and then Eric's birthday the next day! Our friends families all went over to Eric's parents house to celebrater with us. A couple days after that, we were on a plane to Outer Banks North Carolina, courtesy of one of Eric's dad's best friends.  He's got a very nice place, and when he's not looking, I'm going to just move in!

We got home and the next day Mary took Eric in to the ER. (I swear, everytime him and I travel, things don't go well with us!)  They sent him home, and we went back to see his Doctor for his normal check up.  We found out that tomorrow, Monday August 5th, Eric will be getting Mylotarg, which is a targeted action chemo that goes after only the "bad cells."  He hasn't had a biopsy or a lumbar puncture in awhile, but we do know that his blood work looks great, that's a good sign!

Eric and I both remain hopeful that this will work, and even if it only works for a little while, we hope that it works long enough for something new to come out.   We remain hopeful that something's got to work.

Ive been told by many many many people that the first year of marriage is the hardest.  Well, then I'd say we have some pretty easy years coming our way!

Thanks for all of your love and support!!

  • The reason that these years have been the best is that I think that I might have had a somewhat positive impact on your lives and perhaps your understanding of what cancer is and what it can do, to both those of us that it has personally attacked and those of us who know someone who is going through it. -Eric McLean
  • I just want children to be left with a better life than what I was left with," he said. "I want them to experience the feeling I had in my life when I realized that I really mattered.

  • Realistically, I have two more Olympic cycles in me. I'm not going to let this beat me.  I've gained a lot of strength from you guys, if Eric can fight 5 times over I can overcome this one year of setbacks.

  • Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to divine a purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: that man is here for the sake of other men. ~ Albert Einstein

  • I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me! ~ Dr. Seuss
